Man allegedly intentionally drove his car into a Decatur police vehicle

DECATUR, Alabama (WAFF) – A man is accused of intentionally driving his car into two Decatur police vehicles on Wednesday, according to court documents obtained by WAFF.

Decatur police said officers were dispatched to the 500 block of 14th Street SE for a report of a person acting erratically on Wednesday. Officers spotted a man named Michael Vasquez in a vehicle. During contact with Vasquez, Vasquez used his vehicle to attack a patrol unit.

After officers disabled Vasquez's vehicle, a brief physical altercation ensued, police said. Damage to the vehicles totaled more than $2,500, according to court documents.

Michael Vazquez, 29, has been charged with first-degree criminal damage to property, a Class C felony. He is in the Morgan County Jail because he is unable to pay a $100,000 bail, jail records show.

Court records show Vasquez was charged with murder in 2020 before a Morgan County jury found him not guilty.

According to court documents, Vasquez refused to swear to anything or answer questions on Friday, according to an initial order signed by District Judge Shelly Waters.
