Cambria County District Attorney identifies victim and shooter in deadly Johnstown incident

SECOND UPDATE |

Cambria County District Attorney Greg Neugebauer has identified Lenamarie Azzoli, 40, of D Street, Lower Yoder Township, as the victim of a shooting Thursday evening in the West End neighborhood of Johnstown.

According to Neugebauer, Azzoli was killed around 11:30 p.m. when 57-year-old Douglas Yonker shot her multiple times in his K Street home.

Azzoli was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy revealed that she had died from multiple gunshot wounds and the cause of death was ruled homicide.

Neugebauer said it is believed that Azzolie was with Yonker.

According to the criminal complaint, neighbors told investigators they heard an argument between a man and a woman shortly before the shooting.

Police said when they arrived at the scene, Azzolie was found dead on the porch and Yonker was also sitting on the porch.

Investigators say Yonker told them that while the two were on the porch, a car stopped on the street in front of them and a man shot at them. Yonker said he then pulled out a gun himself and returned fire.

Investigators, however, said no shell casings were found other than on the porch. They said “recoil blood” was found on Yonkers' gun and there was evidence Azzolie was shot at close range.

According to Neugebauer, Yonker was treated for a facial injury at a local hospital before being taken to the Cambria County Jail.

He is accused of manslaughter, grievous bodily harm, reckless endangerment of another person and falsification of evidence.
