Driver hospitalized after accident in Franklin Township

A driver was taken to hospital for treatment on Thursday evening following a four-car crash near Boston.

At approximately 5:55 p.m., state police officers were called to the scene on US-41 in Franklin Township.

They found that a vehicle had stopped in the northbound lane and was waiting to turn left onto Boston Location Road. A second vehicle was behind the first, waiting. A third vehicle had not noticed the first two vehicles. It struck the second vehicle, which was then forced into the first lane and then into the southbound lane. There, the second vehicle was struck by a fourth vehicle, which officials said was unable to avoid the collision.

One of the drivers was transported by Mercy EMS to UP Health Systems Portage for treatment. All other drivers and passengers were treated and released at the scene by Mercy EMS.

Names and details about the extent of injuries were not disclosed.

Police reported that the driver's inattention was a cause of the accident.

Michigan State Police patrol officers were assisted by the Houghton County Sheriff's Department, Hancock City Police Department, Mercy EMS and Dave's BP Towing.
