Man arrested for assault and torture | News, Sports, Jobs

Adrian Tello

NEGAUNEE – Adrian Tello, a 23-year-old Marquette man, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant charging him with four counts of domestic violence.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., a Marquette Police Department officer was dispatched to the UPHS-Marquette Intensive Care Unit to treat a 20-year-old Negaunee woman for injuries she reportedly sustained during a domestic violence incident in Marquette.

The investigation revealed that the woman had been repeatedly attacked with a dangerous weapon, strangled and prevented from leaving by her boyfriend Tello. The attacks occurred over several days in Tello's apartment in Marquette.

On Monday, MPD executed a search warrant at Tello's Marquette residence. During the search, additional evidence of the reported crime was found. Tello was not found at the residence.

On Tuesday, the 96th District Court issued an arrest warrant for Tello on four counts of aggravated felonies. The warrant includes two counts of assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation (a felony punishable by 10 years in prison), one count of torture, punishable by life or any term, and one count of false imprisonment, punishable by 15 years in prison.

Tello was arrested Wednesday and lodged in the Marquette County Jail pending arraignment. Bail was set at $700,000 on all charges.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for September 26 at 2 p.m. and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 10 at 9 a.m., both with District Judge Roger Kangas.
