Author and constitutional lawyer Jonathan Turley raised the alarm over Hillary Clinton's “terrifying” proposal to arrest Americans who spread misinformation. Addressing the former secretary of state's controversial comments on free speech on “America's Newsroom,” Turley warned that global efforts to suppress free speech have now reached the United States.

Hillary Clinton says Trump poses “a danger to our country and the world” after assassination attempt

JONATHAN TURLEY: I talk about her in my new book, The Indispensable Right, and how she was one of the most prominent voices in the anti-free speech movement. Her Views on freedom of speech are pretty terrifying. What's interesting is that the left has been trying to get people to accept censorship for years, but it's hard to get a free people to give up their freedom and it doesn't work. And so now they're going back to the old school with Clinton and countries like Brazil. They're just resorting to state prosecution and threatening people with arrest if they have opposing views. This is part of a movement that's growing worldwide and that wave has now reached our shores. That's why I wrote this book.

This is also the person who… her campaign funded the Steele dossier, which contained disinformation. Her campaign was accused of being a conduit for Russian intelligence. And by her standards, does that mean she should be arrested? I doubt it, because that's not how it works. And so we see here with people like Hillary Clinton and the EU with something called the Digital Services Act, an attempt to force companies to censor. It's notable that when Musk bought Twitter, Hillary Clinton's first move seemed to be to go to Europe and ask the Europeans to use the DSA to censor Americans, to force Musk to silence opposing views in the United States. This is a former presidential candidate in the United States asking the Europeans to use their censorship laws to silence other Americans.

Clinton faced sharp criticism when she suggested that Americans who spread disinformation and “propaganda” should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and, in some cases, even arrested.

“I think it's important to prosecute the Russians, just as Mueller prosecuted many Russians who directly interfered in the 2016 election and supported Trump,” the former presidential candidate told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow on Monday. “But I also think there are Americans who are engaging in this kind of propaganda, and whether they should be civilly charged or even criminally charged in some cases would be a better deterrent.”

Turley fired back at Clinton, accusing her and other critics of trying to abuse her power by censoring Americans' right to free speech.

TRUMP CONDEMNS HERITAGE FOUNDATION'S TRANSITION PLAN, SAYS PARTS OF IT ARE 'RIDICULOUS' AND 'ABSOLUTE'

Despite the irony, Clinton accused former President Donald Trump during an appearance on “Morning Joe” of trying to abuse his power and curtail Americans’ most basic rights.

She also tried to link him to Project 2025, a 900-page right-wing transition plan to which the former president had repeatedly denied any connection.

“We've seen him try to abuse his power,” Clinton said Thursday. “He is absolutely aligned with this Project 2025 and all of his dark and dystopian efforts to turn back the clock on Americans' rights and our way of life and our collective view of the future.”
