After the emergency landing, the passengers were finally flown to their original destination on another aircraft

A flight from Norway's capital Oslo had to make an emergency landing after a passenger discovered a live mouse in her in-flight meal. The Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) plane, which was headed for Malaga in Spain, had to be diverted to Copenhagen in Denmark on Wednesday. A spokesman for the airline told the AFP news agency that the diversion was in line with company guidelines because the rodent posed a “safety risk.”

After the emergency landing, the passengers were eventually flown to their original destination on another plane. Following the shocking incident, Jarle Borrestad, who was sitting next to the woman who discovered a mouse in her food, described the ordeal on Facebook.

“Believe it or not, a lady next to me here at SAS opened the food and a mouse jumped out. Now we've turned around and landed in CPH. [Copenhagen Airport] due to flight changes,” the passenger wrote. Borrestad also told BBC News that the situation was not too dramatic and people were “not stressed at all.”

SAS spokesman Oystein Schmidt, meanwhile, explained that the airline has strict rules regarding rodents on board because of the risk of them biting through electrical cables. “This happens extremely rarely,” said Schmidt. “We have established procedures for such situations, which also include checking with our suppliers to ensure that something like this does not happen again.”

This happened after a Delta Air Lines flight had to make an emergency landing because the plane had trouble equalizing at over 10,000 feet. The incident left several passengers with ear and nose bleeds, with at least 10 requiring medical attention. While the airline issued an apology, the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) said it was investigating the incident.
