Paterson man arrested for child pornography

A Paterson man was arrested Thursday after detectives linked him to child sexual abuse material stored on an online cloud account, according to Passaic County Sheriff's Deputy Gary Giardina.

Darrel D. Dye, 36, was taken into custody after the Passaic County Sheriff's Office and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force identified him as the person responsible for uploading child pornography files. Detectives searched Dye's Paterson residence and seized several electronic devices.

During the search, a cell phone was found in Dye's bedroom with a nude picture of a young boy on the lock screen. Dye told investigators he took the picture from an online video. Additional files related to child pornography were discovered on the device, authorities said.

Dye, who fills oxygen tanks for a welding supply company in Newark, is charged with possession of child pornography, a first-degree felony, and two counts of possession of child pornography, second- and third-degree felonies. He is awaiting his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court.
