ENG vs AUS 2024, ENG vs AUS 2nd ODI Match Report, September 21, 2024

England won the coin toss and decided to bowl against Australia

Australia recalled experienced trio Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell for the second ODI at Headingley after they missed the opening match due to illness.

England, who chose to bowl first on an overcast morning, made one change: Olly Stone replaced the rested Jofra Archer. Archer had always been expected to be carefully managed in this series.

“Headingley usually has a bit more to offer at the start, especially when the sky is overcast,” said England captain Harry Brook.

For Australia, Cameron Green, Sean Abbott and the injured Ben Dwarshuis are the three players missing from the Trent Bridge XI. Dwarshuis managed just four overs on his ODI debut before suffering a pectoral muscle injury while bowling in the outfield.

Josh Inglis remains out with a hamstring injury sustained in the T20I series. Matthew Short was scheduled to open this match, with Mitchell Marsh moving up to No. 3.

Australia dominated the opening match, forcing England to collapse to 213 for 2 with their numerous spinners before Travis Head made a magnificent record 154.
