Werder’s Weiser not afraid of Bayern’s goal factory

Mitchell Weiser and the Bundesliga football club Werder Bremen do not want to be intimidated by the goal factory of FC Bayern Munich. “I am sure that we will not be crushed. We are too stable, too well-rehearsed for that,” said the 30-year-old at a media round.

On Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky), Bremen will host the record champions on the Weser. The Munich team have recently been in goal-scoring form: in the league, the league leader won 6-1 against newly promoted Holstein Kiel, and in the Champions League they recorded a 9-2 landslide victory against Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb in their home arena.

Undefeated in nine competitive matches across the season

For Weiser, Bayern are “the best team in Germany and the world”. But the winger is not going to be afraid: “We believe in victory.” There are several reasons for Bremen's optimism. Firstly, coach Ole Werner's team has been undefeated in nine competitive matches. And secondly, in the last meeting with the Munich team, Werder beat Bayern 1-0 – thanks to a goal from Weiser.

“But that is in the past,” said Weiser, who played 21 competitive matches for the Bayern pros. “What you did in the past is of no use.” Of the southern Germans' current squad, the Bremen player only has contact with Serge Gnabry, whom he knows from their time together on the German youth national teams.
