Man arrested after shooting at Morgan Co.

FALKVILLE, Alabama (WAFF) – A man was arrested following a shooting Friday night in Morgan County.

According to the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, officers responded to a shooting on Taylor Nelson Road around 11:30 p.m. At the scene, they found an injured male victim. The victim was stabilized and transported to Huntsville Hospital via medical helicopter with non-life-threatening injuries.

MCSO said the suspect was later found at a residence on Wilson Mountain Road, nearly a mile away, after a reportedly “suspicious” vehicle matched the description of a vehicle seen driving away from the scene. Officers then took the suspect into custody.

After an investigation at both locations, Sammy Howell Nelson, 72, of Eva, was charged with second-degree domestic violence and assault (with a firearm).

He was taken to the Morgan County Jail and his bail was set at $150,000.
