Yancey County man convicted of drug trafficking

YANCEY COUNTY, SC (FOX Carolina) – The North Carolina 35th District Attorney's Office has confirmed that a man has been found guilty of drug trafficking and maintaining a residence for drug use.

The public prosecutor's office reports that a municipality has filed a complaint against David Banks for drug trafficking. Officials confirmed the complaint during an investigation.

Investigators said they discovered a commercial quantity of oxycodone in Banks' apartment and he confessed to delivering controlled substances to people in the community.

Banks was charged with trafficking in opium or heroin, maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of consuming controlled substances, and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance with intent to sell or deliver.

Banks was sentenced to a minimum of 8 years and a maximum of 11 years and 5 months in the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections. After his release, he will be required to serve an additional 30 months of probation.

District Attorney Seth Banks said, “I want to thank the Yancey County Sheriff's Office for their efforts in bringing drug traffickers to justice. My office remains committed to doing everything we can to combat the spread of these poisons in our community.”
