A homeless man was arrested following suspected trespassing and theft on Friday morning.

According to a report from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was in the parking lot of a business in the 2600 block of Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard in Roseburg at around 8:20 a.m. when he was approached by an employee who said she saw a man steal an item from a trailer at a nearby business.

The deputy exited the patrol car and spotted a man nearby pulling a space heater toward another business. The owner of the business in question yelled at the suspect to return the item. The deputy ordered the suspect to stop and walk back to him. He complied, stating he had permission to take the space heater. The business owner disagreed and later requested that the man be arrested for trespassing.

The suspect, a 34-year-old homeless man, was charged with second-degree trespassing and third-degree theft. He was jailed without bail.
