Daniel Dubois defeats Anthony Joshua with a stunning KO in the 5th round

LONDON – Daniel Dubois completely destroyed Anthony Joshua's career after knocking out his English rival with a fifth-round right hook to the chin in his first defense of his IBF heavyweight world title on Saturday.

Joshua endured a nightmare as Dubois knocked him down in rounds 1 and 3 before delivering the brutal finish in round 5 after 59 seconds.

Despite being the champion, Dubois pulled off an upset and suffered his fourth defeat as a professional in front of 96,000 fans at Wembley Stadium, the largest post-war crowd at a boxing event in the United Kingdom, denying Joshua a chance to become a three-time heavyweight world champion.

Much has been made of Joshua's knockout form, and he came into the fight having brutally beaten Francis Ngannou in March. But it was Dubois' power and aggressiveness that determined the outcome as he dominated Joshua, who was on shaky legs from the first round.

The win gives Dubois the opportunity to fight for the undisputed heavyweight world title in 2025 against the winner of the December 21 fight between WBC, WBA and WBO champions Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury, both of whom were ringside.

Usyk stopped Dubois in round 9 in August last year. Joshua must now hope for a Dubois rematch or perhaps a clash against the loser on December 21 after suffering another major setback in his career.
