Braddock man arrested for car theft on North Side – after car was remotely disabled by OnStar

A Braddock man was arrested Friday night after police said they observed him stealing a car on Pittsburgh's north side.

Aaron Morris, 20, of Braddock, was charged with several serious crimes, including carjacking, receiving stolen goods and aggravated assault, according to court documents.

Pittsburgh police said they saw Morris steal a vehicle from a woman in the area of ​​Middle and East Ohio Street around 5:20 p.m. Friday

Police then pursued Morris by car north on Interstate 279 before heading back into the city to Oakland and down to the Strip District. Police said they then called off the pursuit in the Strip District due to the large number of pedestrians and heavy traffic.

As Morris then drove through downtown and back to the North Side, police said he was taken into custody at the corner of East North and Middle Street after the vehicle was remotely disabled by OnStar.

According to police, Morris stated that he was under the influence of drugs at the time of his arrest.

Morris was held in the Allegheny County Jail and denied bail.
