2 dead in accident on I-26 in Orangeburg County

BOWMAN, SC (WRDW/WAGT) – Two people are dead in a crash on Interstate 26 in Orangeburg County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

According to police, the accident occurred at 11:20 a.m. Saturday morning near mile marker 156, just under six miles north of Bowman.

According to police, a Honda CRV was traveling east on I-26 when the driver veered off the right side of the road, oversteered and lost control. The driver then veered off the left side of the road, crossed the median and struck a Chrysler van traveling west on I-26 head-on.

Three other vehicles were damaged by debris, police say.

According to police, the drivers of the Honda CRV and the Chrysler van are both dead.

The accident is currently being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
