Man wanted for unsolved murder in Virginia arrested in Florida

Officials said 43-year-old Timothy Hickerson has an arrest warrant in Virginia for the murder of 23-year-old Shane Donahue.

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A man arrested Tuesday in Flagler County is charged with an unsolved 2010 murder in Virginia, a news release said.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, 43-year-old Timothy Hickerson was stopped by officers on Old Kings Road after running a red light.

Officials said there is a warrant out of Virginia for Hickerson's arrest in the murder of 23-year-old Shane Donahue. Hickerson was arrested on a warrant for first-degree murder and burglary.

“This shows that there is no such thing as a simple traffic stop. This case ended with a fugitive wanted for a murder over 14 years ago being brought to justice,” said Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly.

Donohue was reported missing on March 24, 2010 and was last seen leaving his parents' home in Nokesville, but the case was closed.

Recently, investigators in the US state of Virginia discovered new information and resumed their investigation into Donohue's disappearance.

The press release states that investigators learned that Hickerson and Donohue were seen leaving the victim's parents' home together and returning to the victim's nearby home.

Donahue's remains have not yet been found, but Virginia authorities believe he is dead.

The investigation revealed that Hickerson was connected to a break-in at Donahue's home a few days before his disappearance.

Hickerson is being held without bail pending extradition to Virginia. He has lived in Palm Coast since 2022.

“If you are a fugitive, we will catch you, no matter where you fled from, and put you in prison,” Staly said.
