Suspect in Sparks shooting that left one person dead now arrested for murder

The injured suspect who shot another man on Wednesday was medically evaluated and taken to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.

According to Sparks police, shortly before 4:20 p.m. on September 18, police received a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 1800 block of East Street and that the suspect was still inside the apartment.

When officers arrived, they found two men with injuries from a fight and a third man who was uninjured.

Officers immediately began medical treatment for the two men and transported them to the hospital, where one of them later died. Authorities have not yet released his identity.

The second man, later identified as Yun Kim, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is believed to be in stable condition.

Investigators determined that two workers were renovating a vacant apartment when they were confronted by Kim. After a brief altercation, the workers managed to get Kim to leave. However, police said Kim returned a short time later with a gun and began shooting at the two workers – hitting one of them multiple times.

Witnesses came to help and we were able to keep Kim at the scene while the police were on their way.

According to police, Kim faces the following charges: premeditated murder with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon.

The investigation is ongoing. Sparks Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to contact Sparks Police Detectives at 353-2225 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
