Petersburg Police Arrest Man for 2022 Murder in Pecan Acres

PETERSBURG – A person arrested Friday afternoon for a shooting near the Cool Spring neighborhood is being linked to a 2022 homicide in the city's Pecan Acres community.

Q'Shawn Scott, 28, was arrested Friday near Halifax Street and Baylors Lane when police responded to a call about shots fired. During that investigation, police linked Scott to the shooting death of a man Sept. 10 on Cottonwood Drive in Pecan Acres.

Scott has been charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He also has a warrant out for his arrest for domestic violence.

Friday's arrest was the second this week for a murder in the city.

Jamal Burrows, 34, was arrested Sept. 17 in Hopewell for the Aug. 6 murder of Devere McKinney in the 200 block of Holly Hill Drive. He is charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Both Scott and Burrows are being held at the Riverside Regional Jail in Prince George County.
