Driver arrested after fatal accident in Lubbock County

After an accident on Friday evening southeast of Lubbock, a motorcyclist was killed and another driver is in jail.

Danny Adam Vasquez, Sr., 49, of Slaton died when his 2016 Yamaha motorcycle struck the rear of a pickup truck that was overhanging the roadway near the intersection of U.S. Highway 84 and County Road 7200 around 9:30 p.m. Friday, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

A crash investigation revealed that the driver of the 2024 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck, driven by 60-year-old Dane Lay Powell of Snyder, was in the median crossing of U.S. 84 when Vasquez was traveling east on U.S. 84 in the left lane, according to DPS. Vasquez's motorcycle then collided with the rear of Powell's truck, which reportedly came to a stop in the left lane where Vasquez was traveling.
