The seven people arrested by the Chandaka police in Bhubaneswar in connection with the alleged attack on an army officer's fiancée on Chandaka Road have been released on bail just hours after their arrest.

According to reports, the JMFC court in Bhubaneswar granted bail to the accused just four hours after his arrest.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Krushna Prasad Das, the arrests earlier in the day were part of the investigation into a road rage and assault case involving an Army major and his fiancée that occurred on the night of September 15 in Bhubaneswar.

On 19.09.24, Compl. Deepak Kumar Khandayatray, IIC, Bharatpur PS, reported in writing to Chandaka PS that on the instructions of the Superintendent of Police, BBSR-CTC, he had investigated the alleged attack on Major Guruvansh Singh and his fiancée on the night of 14-15 September, when they were returning to Andharua from DLF building, Chandaka in their car.

On the way, some unknown persons in their cars chased them and ambushed them near DN Global Tree Chhak on Infocity-Chandaka Road at around 2.20 am. They dragged Major Singh and his fiancée out of their car, assaulted them and abused them for overtaking. Since the incident site falls under the jurisdiction of Chandaka PS, he filed an FIR to take necessary action against the culprits.

During investigation, it was found that on the day of incident, the vehicle was used by Abhilash Samanta and Sameer alias Asis Kumar Swain to pick up their friends from Topnotch Pub in Patia. Major Guruvansh Singh and his fiancée had been to the pub on the evening of 14.09.24. While they were returning on Pathargadia Road towards Andharua near Sundarpur Chhak, they overtook the accused and their friends coming from Pathargadia side and a heated exchange of words and assault ensued.

Following the investigation, police arrested seven accused and seized eleven mobile phones, two of which contained audio and video recordings of the incident and the car.
