Quad Summit: Prime Minister Modi announces $7.5 million grant to fight cervical cancer

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced assistance worth $7.5 million for sample collection and detection kits and vaccines to combat cervical cancer as part of the Indian vision “One Earth, One Health”.
Prime Minister Modi, while Quad summit Cancer Moonshot event in Delaware, mentioned New Delhi's initiative to combat cervical cancer and said India is ready to share its expertise.
Quad has launched a signature initiative called Cancer Moonshot, through which the bloc aims to implement innovative strategies to prevent, detect, treat and mitigate the impact of cancer on patients and their families.
“I want to thank President Biden for organizing this event. It reflects our shared determination to provide affordable, accessible, high-quality HealthcareDuring the Covid pandemic we had the quad Vaccine Initiative for the Indo-Pacific and I am glad that we in the Quad have decided to jointly tackle challenges like cervical cancer. In cancer treatment, cooperation is essential for cure,” said Prime Minister Modi.
“To reduce the cancer burden, an integrated approach of prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment is required. A very cost-effective cervical cancer screening programme is currently underway in India,” he added.

Prime Minister Modi said India has developed a vaccine against the disease and new treatment protocols are being introduced with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).
“In addition, India runs the world's largest health insurance scheme and special centres have been set up to provide medicines to all at affordable prices. India has also developed its own vaccine against cervical cancer and new treatment protocols are being introduced with the help of artificial intelligence,” the Prime Minister said.
“India is ready to share its experience and expertise. Today, we have been joined by many experts from India who are involved in cancer care. India's vision is 'One Earth, One Health'. I am announcing support in the form of sample collection kits, detection kits and vaccines worth USD 7.5 million,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi also announced that India will cooperate in radiotherapy and capacity building and will provide 40 million vaccine doses to Indo-Pacific countries under the Gavi and Quad initiatives.
