Kidman, 57, had just arrived at the Venice Film Festival on September 7 when she learned of her mother's death and left early.

Halina Reijn, director of the film “Babygirl,” read a handwritten note from Kidman, who won best actress for her performance in the film, during her scheduled appearance.

“Today I arrived in Venice and shortly after learned that my beautiful, brave mother Janelle Ann Kidman has just passed away,” the note said. “I am in shock and need to be with my family, but this award is for them.”

“She shaped me, she guided me and she made me,” the “Moulin Rouge” actress continued. “I am infinitely grateful that through Halina I can say her name to all of you.”

“The collision of life and art is heartbreaking and my heart is broken.”

A spokesperson for Kidman also confirmed the news to Page Six, saying: “The family is heartbroken and asks for privacy at this time.”

On September 13, the Oscar winner and her sister Antonia sent a message of thanks and condolences to their fans.

“My sister and I, along with our family, would like to thank you for the great love and kindness we have felt this week,” Kidman wrote alongside old photos of her mother.

“Every message we received from the people who loved and admired our mother meant more to us than we can ever put into words.”

It is unclear how 84-year-old Janelle died.

However, Kidman hinted that she was struggling with health issues during an appearance on NPR's podcast “Fresh Air” in January 2022.

“We are down here [in Australia] primarily to take care of my mother and surround her with her grandchildren,” she said.

“So luckily, last — yesterday, although [COVID-19 strain] “Omicron is raging in this country, we were able to take her to the gallery after closing time and show her the Matisse exhibition, which for me, having a mother who raised me in art, was very, very – it was a relief.”

In 2020, Kidman said she missed her mother's 80th birthday due to the pandemic, but was happy to be reunited with her in August of the same year.
