Sixth-grader from West Clermont allegedly threatened to shoot teacher

CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) – A sixth-grader at West Clermont Middle School is facing charges after allegedly making comments about shooting a teacher, the sheriff's office said.

According to Sheriff Robert Leahy, the boy told students Friday morning that he planned to shoot a specific teacher and indicated that he had a firearm in his school bag.

The students told the teacher in question, who then notified the school administration and the school's deputy liaison officer who was on site, the sheriff said.

The sixth-grader was taken out of class and the school administration searched his belongings.

According to Sheriff Leahy, officers concluded that the boy was not carrying any weapons and that there was no active threat to anyone on school grounds.

A press release said that detectives had interviewed several students who had heard the sixth-grader's comments. Their statements were consistent.

The press release states that the boy told investigators that he made the threat but had no plan to carry it out and did not have access to weapons.

Investigators also verified with the boy's family that he did not have access to firearms in their home.

The Clermont County District Attorney has charged the sixth-grader with disorderly conduct in a school zone and aggravated menacing, both misdemeanors.

The boy is being held in the Clermont County Juvenile Detention Center without bail.

A detention hearing is scheduled for Monday.

The sheriff's office said the student was also suspended from school pending further disciplinary action at the school.
