Two felony suspects will appear in the Bowie County dock on Monday

TEXARKANA, Texas – Two defendants are facing felony charges in Bowie County’s 202nd District Court on Monday.

Cesar Olalde, 19, of Nash, Texas, and Russell Ryan Soule, 33, of Atlanta, Texas, are scheduled to have pretrial hearings before Judge John Tidwell at 9 a.m. in the Bi-State Justice Building.

Olalde is charged with felony assault against multiple persons and felony assault against a child under 10 for allegedly killing his parents and siblings in their Nash home in 2023.

According to court documents, Soule is charged with capital terroristic threats, murder, aggravated sexual assault and sexual battery for allegedly killing his girlfriend in their Wake Village, Texas, apartment in 2017.

CESAR OLALDE

Earlier this year, the court appointed an independent expert to conduct a second evaluation of Olalde. His court-appointed attorney, Jeff Harrelson, had previously filed a document stating that Olalde had been examined by an expert hired by the defense and found to be insane.

The expert's evaluation of Olalde found that the defendant is incompetent to stand trial under Texas law, the motion states. The motion also suggests that the court appoint an “unbiased expert” to evaluate Olalde.

First Assistant District Attorney Kelley Crisp did not object to the motion, saying prosecutors would decide whether the state would retain its own expert witness depending on the results of the expert's testimony.

Olalde remains in the Bi-State Detention Center on $10 million bail.

According to an affidavit, Olalde killed his parents Reuben Olalde and Aida Garcia, as well as his older sister Lisbet Olalde and his five-year-old brother Oliver Olalde on May 23, 2023.

Each person had been shot multiple times and police found several bullet casings on the ground.

A co-worker of Lisbet Olalde went to the Olalde house on the morning of May 23 when Lisbet did not show up for work. The co-worker and another family member were able to get into the house, where Cesar met them with a gun, according to the affidavit.

The co-worker told police that Cesar said he killed his family because they were cannibals and wanted to eat him, the affidavit states.

RUSSELL SOUL

According to jail and court records, Soule was arraigned on July 9 and booked into the Bowie County Correctional Center on July 12. His bail is set at $1 million. A motion to expunge the charges has also been filed, according to court records.

On September 15, 2017, officers responded to a report of an unresponsive woman at a residence in the 100 block of Redwater Road in Wake Village. Lindsey Torres, 31, of Wake Village and Soule lived together at the residence.

Torres was pronounced dead and an autopsy was ordered.

The autopsy revealed that Torres died from drowning or other injuries, but the cause of death has not yet been determined, according to police.

On March 5, Soule allegedly asked police to take him to the local emergency room for an evaluation, according to an affidavit. Soule told the officer who drove him that he had killed his girlfriend.

When questioned by an Atlanta Police detective at the hospital, Soule allegedly stated that he strangled Torres after an argument in the bathtub.

Soule is represented by attorney John Delk.

The punishment for capital crimes in Texas is either the death penalty or life imprisonment without parole.
