Emily Blunt's children thought she was the “meanest person” after watching The Devil Wears Prada

Emily Blunt's daughters were horrified by their mother's famous appearance in The Devil Wears Prada.

“They thought I was the meanest person they had ever met,” the actress – who has children Hazel, 10, and Violet, 7, with husband John Krasinski – told Page Six on Monday at the American Institute for Stuttering's 18th annual gala.

Of the 2006 classic film, in which she plays an assistant at a high-end fashion magazine, Blunt said: “It's incredible that the film has left such an indelible impression on people… and it gets quoted to me every week.”

She added that the cast, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci, had “the time of our lives” working on the film.

“It was my first big movie back when I was young,” she told us. “I remember my agent calling me and telling me about the opening weekend. I was like, 'Is this good?' Like I don't know what good is.”

Earlier this month, Blunt and Krasinski made a rare appearance with their little film critics at the US Open in New York. The family of four sat courtside during the women's final.

On Monday, Blunt, 41, told us during the gala that the American Institute for Stuttering is a charity that is very close to her heart.

Blunt said she was “embarrassed” by her stuttering as a child and “started to shut herself off” before seeking help.

“I never thought I would have a job that required so much communication,” she confessed, noting that one of her teachers encouraged me to “aim higher than I thought I could.”

She continued, “I find it really ironic that I ended up in a job that is so public and involves so much public speaking… And I'm grateful because I love what I do.”

The “Oppenheimer” star gave advice to children who also stutter: “Talk openly about it and don’t keep it to yourself.”

Blunt, who attended the event with Krasinski, sits on the board of the advocacy group, which has raised more than $1 million to provide free or low-cost therapy for underserved people who stutter.
