Boston College 23, Michigan State 19, final: Michigan State had a chance to score another big road win, but lost the ball four times. The Spartans' defense gave them a chance to win, but Aidan Chiles was inconsistent and the Spartans could do little with their running attack. They now face

4th quarter

0:36: Aidan Chiles drives Michigan State past the halfway line, but then throws a 40-yard pass into double coverage in the end zone. It's his third interception of the game and will likely end this game. Boston College 23, Michigan State 19

1:29: Michigan State's defense allows its first big pass at the worst possible time. Boston College manages a 42-yard touchdown pass in the final two minutes of the game and takes the lead after a quick 75-yard run. Boston College 23, Michigan State 19

4:12: Michigan State embarked on a nine-minute, 18-play, 89-yard drive from its own 2-yard line inside Boston College's 10-yard line. Aziah Johnson had two big catches and Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams tiptoed his way to a 3rd-and-15 conversion, but consecutive incomplete passes forced the Spartans to settle for a field goal. Michigan State 19, Boston College 16

13:36: Boston College tries fourth and goal inside the MSU 1-yard line and Jordan Hall makes a great tackle that loses the ball and keeps Boston College out of the end zone, keeping the game tied. Boston College 16, Michigan State 16

3rd quarter

4:06 am: The Spartans get out of their own end zone, but not much further, as they punt from deep in their own zone. A dropped snap on third down forces the Spartans to punt, leaving Boston College 59 yards to take the lead. Boston College 16, Michigan State 16

7:53 am: The good news: Michigan State's defense continues to play well and forces a punt from BC. The bad news: The Eagles sank that punt at the 1-yard line. Boston College 16, Michigan State 16

9:06 am: Jonathan Kim scores his third field goal of the night, this time from 51 yards, to tie the game. Aidan Chiles missed a completely open pass from Montorie Foster Jr. that would have been an easy touchdown. The Spartans' running backs have just 34 yards tonight. Boston College 16, Michigan State 16

12:20 pm: Michigan State again finds itself in a difficult position and this time cannot hold its ground. The Spartans allow a 36-yard touchdown on the first play of the drive and fall behind again. Boston College 16, Michigan State 13

12:30 p.m.: The Spartans' disastrous start to the second half continues. Aidan Chiles throws behind Jack Velling and Boston College intercepts the ball. For the second time tonight, Chiles missed Velling and was able to intercept the ball with relative ease. Michigan State 13, Boston College 9

12:35 p.m.: Michigan State's defense scores with the goal line stand. They prevent two runs and then sack the storming Thomas Castellanos, preventing BC from scoring a field goal. Michigan State 13, Boston College 9

14:53: Disastrous start to the second half for Michigan State. Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams takes the kickoff outside the end zone and loses the ball at his own 5-yard line. BC catches the ball again and is close to a touchdown that leads to the equalizer. Michigan State 13, Boston College 6

2nd quarter

0:24: Michigan State quickly gains 51 yards thanks to another nice running play by Aidan Chiles, some long passes and a 12-yard run by Nate Carter. The Spartans stop at the 10-yard line but score a field goal. Michigan State 13, Boston College 6

1:43: A big sack on third down by Khris Bogle and Jalen Satchell gives Michigan State's defense its second consecutive 3-and-out and gives the Spartans defense another chance before halftime. Michigan State 10, Boston College 6

3:15 am: Aidan Chiles had a great 22-yard run and a nice 17-yard throw to Montorie Foster to get the Spartans close to the red zone, but then he missed a pass over the middle, allowing Boston College to easily intercept the ball. Michigan State 10, Boston College 6

7:06 am: After allowing two consecutive drives of 55 or more yards, the Spartans manage a three-and-out, giving their offense good field position. Michigan State 10, Boston College 6

8:10 am: Aidan Chiles missed two long throws early in the drive, but then extended the drive with a 3rd-and-10 run. This allowed him to hit Montorie Foster Jr. for a 40-yard pass and score a minute later with a 1-yard touchdown run. Chiles only made 3 of 9 shots, but his last long throw counted. Michigan State 10, Boston College 6

12:22 pm: Boston College's running game is getting going: The Eagles already have six runs of 10 yards or more, the last of which was an 11-yard touchdown run that capped a 64-yard run and gave the Eagles the lead. Michigan State allowed a third-down conversion and a fourth-down conversion on that run and had some tackling problems. The Eagles missed the point afterward due to a bad snap. Boston College 6, Michigan State 3

1st quarter

3:30 am: The Spartans go 3-and-out on their second possession and their defense gets a brief break after Boston College moved the ball well against them. Michigan State 3, Boston College 0

5:11: Great play by the MSU defense: After Boston College had mostly dragged the ball down the ground, Cal Haladay forced a fumble inside his own 10-yard line and the Spartans recovered and stopped the Eagles on their 58-yard drive. Michigan State 3, Boston College 0

9:11 am: The Spartans took advantage of the short field to get a 41-yard field goal from Jonathan Kim. Aidan Chiles had a nice 3rd-and-10 pass to Jack Velling to get the team in field goal range, but things stalled from there. Michigan State 3, Boston College 0

12:59 pm: Good start for Michigan State's defense: The Spartans forced Boston College to minus three yards on their first drive and forced the punt. A short punt means the Spartans start in BC territory. Michigan State 0, Boston College 0

Before the game: Key injury news: Star rookie wide receiver Nick Marsh will miss Saturday night's game against the Eagles due to injury, joining an already lengthy list of Spartans wide receiver injuries that also includes Jaron Glover, Alante Brown and Antonio Gates Jr.

Michigan State travels to Chestnut Hill for the first time since 1992 to play a Boston College team that is 2-1 and looks to be a bigger challenge than most younger versions of a team that hasn't won more than seven games since 2009.

But the Spartans are also showing signs of improvement, thanks in large part to a young offense led by Aidan Chiles and Nick Marsh and a defense that kept a clean sheet last week against Prairie View A&M.

The game marks the conclusion of Michigan State's nonconference play before Big Ten play begins against two top-10 teams, Ohio State and Oregon.

Kickoff is at 8 p.m. on the ACC Network. You can find live updates here throughout the evening.
