4 dead and dozens injured in mass shooting in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WBRC) – Four people were killed in a mass shooting in Five Points South, according to Birmingham police.

Shortly after 11 p.m., Birmingham Police received a call about a shooting in the 2000 block of Magnolia Avenue. Officers arrived at the scene to find two men and a woman lying unconscious on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced the three dead at the scene.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald says a fourth victim was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital.

The Birmingham Fire Department reports that eight victims were taken to the hospital. According to BPD, four of them are in critical condition.

Officials said dozens of victims were taken to various hospitals across the city.

The BPD believes multiple shooters fired multiple shots at a group of people either on the sidewalk or in the street on Magnolia Avenue. Investigators are still trying to confirm if the shooters fired on foot or from a car.
