Mass shooting in Alabama leaves four dead and at least 21 injured

Four people were killed and at least 21 others injured in a mass shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday evening.

Two men and a woman were killed at the scene in the 2000 block of Magnolia Avenue in the Five Points South neighborhood near the University of Alabama at Birmingham, while a fourth victim died at the university hospital, Birmingham police told AL.com.

The incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m., Officer Truman Fitzgerald told the outlet.

Birmingham Fire Department took eight victims to the hospital. Police said four of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

Many others also came to the hospitals in private vehicles.

According to police, several shooters are believed to be responsible for the shooting. No suspects have been arrested.

“Rest assured, we will do everything in our power to track down, identify and hunt down those responsible for the exploitation of our people,” Fitzgerald told AL.com.

While police continue their investigation, roads in the area have been cordoned off.

Fitzgerald said police have contacted the FBI and ATF for assistance.
