Car crash leaves gaping hole at Booker T. Washington High

NORFOLK, Virginia – A car crashed into Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk early Saturday morning, leaving a gaping hole in the side of the building, police said.

The 911 call about a car crash came in around 4:30 a.m. at 1111 Park Avenue – the address of Booker T. Washington. When officers arrived, they found a 21-year-old female driver injured, according to News 3.

Car crashes into Norfolk high school

Photos from the scene show a huge hole the car had torn in the wall. However, by 10 a.m. the car appeared to have been removed.

Cleanup crews on the scene told News 3 that the car was apparently speeding west along Princess Anne Road, lost control and crashed into a culinary arts classroom on the northeast corner of the school.

We were told the driver was taken to hospital and is expected to be OK.

The chief operations officer for Norfolk Public Schools was on scene and told News 3 that crews were quickly patching the hole. He said the incident is not expected to impact classes on Monday.

According to police, charges are now pending depending on the outcome of the investigation.
