Argument at LSU game leads to brawl with off-duty LSP police officer accused of assault

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — An off-duty Louisiana State Police officer has been charged with two counts of simple assault following a fight at the LSU-UCLA football game on Saturday, authorities said.

State police said 30-year-old Artellus Bellard of Lake Charles was off-duty and started the fight after a verbal argument with two men.

“During the game, police officers responded to a disturbance in the stands and found that a physical altercation had occurred between the off-duty police officer and two male individuals,” a press release said.

Bellard has been a state trooper (Troop D Patrol) since 2021. He was released on summons, pending a court date.
