Off-duty police officer arrested after altercation at LSU football game; charged with simple assault

The following is a press release from the Louisiana State Police.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Just after 5 p.m. this afternoon, an off-duty police officer was charged with two counts of assault following a disturbance at the LSU vs. UCLA football game. During the game, police officers responded to a disturbance in the stands and found that a physical altercation had occurred between the off-duty police officer and two male subjects. Further investigation revealed that the off-duty police officer, identified as 30-year-old Artellus Bellard of Lake Charles, committed the assault following a verbal dispute.

Trooper Bellard, assigned to Troop D patrol since 2021, was charged with two counts of assault and released on summons with a pending court date. No further information is available at this time pending the outcome of the criminal and administrative proceedings.
