Colorado Rapids secures MLS Cup playoffs with victory over Toronto

The Colorado Rapids are heading to the playoffs.

Reggie Cannon scored in his first home game with the Rapids and Djordje Mihailovic converted a penalty in stoppage time as Colorado beat Toronto FC 2-0 at a rainy Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday night.

The win secured the Rapids their first MLS Cup Playoffs berth since they finished atop the Western Conference standings in 2021. Colorado (15-5-10) now sits third in the West with 58 points, five points behind first-place LA Galaxy.

Cannon, who was signed earlier this month, scored in the 50th minute with a right-foot shot from outside the box. With the Rapids looking to tie the game in the last minute, Darren Yapi drew a foul in the box and Mihailovic calmly shot through the middle for his 11th goal of the MLS season.

Of the two attacks on Saturday night, Colorado was clearly the more dangerous opponent, bringing eight shots on goal to Toronto's only one.

The Rapids’ next game is on September 28th at Minnesota United.
