Steven Adler of Guns N'Roses remembers the beginning of his drug addiction

Former Guns N'Roses drummer Steven Adler has spoken about the beginnings of his heroin addiction.

In a new interview, Adler spoke about the beginnings of this addiction, explaining that he initially only took the drug to fit in with two of his Guns N' Roses bandmates.

“When I started taking heroin, I wanted to be part of what (lead guitarist) Slash and (rhythm guitarist) Izzy (Stradlin) were doing,” said Adler. “I took two hits. I've never felt so sick in my entire life.”

He added: “And don't you know what an asshole I am? I had to try again. And the third time, it worked. I fell in love with it.”

“injured”

Elsewhere, Steven Adler also revealed that he was fired from the band several times due to his drug abuse.

Due to his drug use, Adler was eventually fired from Guns N'Roses in 1990 and replaced by Matt Sorum.

“I always liked the team spirit,” Adler continued. “That's why it was so important to me to start a band where we could work together and create something. And then when my team kicked me out, I didn't know what to do. I knew I could have either improved or kept doing what I was doing. I kept doing what I was doing. It hurt me so much.”

Due to his drug addiction, Adler struggled with numerous health problems, including a stroke in 1996.

Nevertheless, Adler was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 2012 as part of the classic lineup of Guns N' Roses.

Despite his difficulties, Adler insists he has always enjoyed working with his bandmates, including Duff McKagan and Slash.

He said: “I just loved being part of a team and Guns N' Roses, the five of us, were a damn great team.”

Speaking of Slash, the famous guitarist has said that 2025 is going to be a busy year for Guns N' Roses. Read more from Nova here.
