2 dead, 4 injured after head-on collision in western Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – Two people were killed and several others, including children, were seriously injured in a car crash in western Phoenix on Saturday.

At around 1:20 p.m., Maricopa County Sheriff's officers were called to a head-on collision near 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road.

According to MCSO, a woman and a man were killed in the collision. Four other people were hospitalized. The sheriff's office also confirmed that children were involved in the crash and some were hospitalized with “very serious injuries.”

Arizona's family spoke to a group of people at the scene of the accident who said they were the deceased woman's family. They identified her as 34-year-old Sharon Gina Maire Bejarano. Bejarano's aunt said she had her three young daughters in the white pickup truck.

The family said the girls had broken arms and legs and were undergoing surgery. They said the girls are expected to make a full recovery.

Bejarano's family is raising money to cover funeral and hospital costs.

Dozens of people, including Adriana Erives, who were nearby, stopped to watch the scene.

“I feel terrible. It's really depressing. It's very shocking because I've seen accidents before, but never anything like this,” Erives said.

Erives, a mother, said she was heartbroken when she learned that children were involved in the accident.

“I'm praying for them. I hope they're OK and recover. I'm a mother and I hope something like this never happens to my children,” she said.

The roads were closed for several hours but reopened around 7:20 p.m.

Detectives are still investigating what caused this accident. No further information has been released.
