Eight workers faint in drug factory due to chemical exposure: Urgent inspection conducted | News from Dehradun

Rudrapur: A joint inspection was carried out at a Pharmaceutical manufacturing unit on Moradabad Road in Kashipur area of Udham Singh Nagar district on Friday evening after eight workers lost consciousness due to contact with chemicals.
The inspection team, comprising Tehsildar Pankaj Chandola, Senior Drugs Inspector Neeraj Diwakar and Pollution Control Board (PCB) Regional Officer Naresh Goswami, found that the fainting episode was caused by an “accidental” release of a chemical in the tablet coating.
Drug inspector Diwakar said: “Contrary to initial reports, the women did not faint because of pesticide spraying but because they were exposed to the chemicals in the coating. It was a human error.”
PCB official Goswami added: “It was found that the operations of the factory were in accordance with the department's standards.”
The incident occurred on Thursday evening during routine spraying of pesticides to control mosquitoes at the factory, where over 200 workers were on site. Shortly after the spraying, several workers developed breathing difficulties and subsequently lost consciousness.
Manish Singh, the company's human resource manager, said, “We carried out routine mosquito control measures and eight women were affected. They were immediately taken to a private hospital and their condition is now improving.”
Dr Pankaj Saini, who is overseeing the treatment of the workers, said: “Two women are still in critical condition due to chemical exposure, but the rest are recovering and will be discharged soon.”
