A few hours after the gruesome murder of 29-year-old Mahalakshmi came to light, four special teams were formed to investigate the case from different angles. Several suspects were arrested, including an employee of a nearby barber shop who was allegedly close to the deceased.

According to police, the accused visited Mahalakshmi frequently and is said to have visited her the day before her murder.

Even Mahalakshmi's estranged husband told the police that she was having an affair with him and suspected his role.

Police are also investigating the role of two more people, including a man who frequently dropped Mahalakshmi to and from work. There was another man who was close to Mahalakshmi at the workplace and he is also being questioned, police said.

After her husband and child separated, Mahalakshmi stayed with her brother Hukum Singh and his wife for a few days. However, after an argument with Mahalakshmi, they moved to Gunjur and since then she has lived alone.

The murder came to light on Saturday (September 21, 2024) when a neighbor noticed a foul smell coming from the house and called Hukum to inform him.

Hukum, in turn, called his mother Meena Rana and sister Lakshmi to check on Mahalakshmi. Mother and daughter came home and, with the help of the neighbor, got a spare key to open the house. They found the house ransacked, blood dripping from the refrigerator and a strong smell.

They opened the refrigerator, found it stuffed with Mahalakshmi's dismembered body parts and called for help.
