Saharanpur (UP): Three policemen were attacked while chasing a man who allegedly opened fire on some villagers during an altercation here, officials said on Sunday.

The injured policemen and villagers have been taken to hospital. The condition of a sub-inspector is critical, officials said. A man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The incident took place in Kislashpur village under Gagalhedi police station area, where clashes broke out between two groups on Saturday evening, said Deputy SP (city) Abhimanyu Manglik.

Some police officers took the injured to the hospital while others chased the accused, who fled the scene. When one man saw the police officers following him, he led them to a house where his accomplices allegedly attacked the police officers with a sharp weapon, Manglik said.
