Chase ends with rollover accident on Freeway 101 in Camarillo

CAMARILLO, Calif. (KABC) — A traffic stop turned into a chase that ended overnight with a rollover accident on Freeway 101 in Camarillo.

The incident occurred around 12:03 a.m. Sunday after officers attempted to stop a Toyota 4Runner for driving without headlights at the corner of Peoples Avenue and Barry Street, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

The vehicle also matched the description of a vehicle involved in a shoplifting incident about 30 minutes earlier, authorities said. Additional details about that incident were not available.

The suspects fled when an officer approached the vehicle and a chase ensued.

The chase ended abruptly when the driver made a sharp left turn and hit the median on Freeway 101, causing his car to roll over.

Both occupants of the 4Runner were taken to hospital in unknown condition.
