The IDF said it carried out retaliatory strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon and attacked Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The Israel Defense Forces said on Sunday morning that they were carrying out retaliatory strikes against the Iran-backed terrorist group Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Previously, Hezbollah had launched about 115 air strikes on civilian areas in northern Israel within a few hours, according to Israeli forces.

The Israeli Defense Forces said their defenses were stationed in northern Israel and were on high alert to ward off threats in the area. Air defense systems intercepted several missiles over Haifa in Israel.

The military announced that attacks against Hezbollah would continue and intensify.

The Israel Defense Forces also said the Israeli Air Force had carried out a targeted attack on Hamas terrorists in a complex in the northern Gaza Strip.

According to the Israeli Defense Forces, numerous measures were taken before the attack to reduce the risk of harm to civilians, including the use of precision munitions, aerial surveillance and additional intelligence.

Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant spoke several times with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin over the weekend about developments in northern Israel.

Gallant informed Austin of the exact operation carried out by the Israeli forces to eliminate the head of Hezbollah's operations unit and commander of the Radwan forces, Ibrahim Aqil. Aqil is a high-ranking Hezbollah leader and the planner of several terrorist attacks against Israel. He is also wanted in the United States for the killing of Israeli citizens.

The minister also spoke about Israel's defense posture and operations against Hezbollah's ongoing attacks on northern cities and civilian areas in Israel. He said the goal is to ensure that Israel's northern communities can return to their homes.

Gallant also informed Austin of the ongoing activities of Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip against Hamas and stressed his determination to free the more than 100 hostages still held by Hamas.

He expressed his gratitude to Austin and the US leadership for reaffirming their commitment to Israel.
