UP woman and her two sons murder 17-year-old daughter who was raped: police

Sambhal (UP):

Police have arrested a woman and her two sons in connection with the murder of her 17-year-old daughter last week, officials said Sunday.

The trio hatched the murder plan because they feared harm to the family from an ongoing rape trial in which the teenager was the alleged victim, police said.

The incident occurred on September 18, when the girl was shot while riding a motorcycle with her brother and mother, police said.

Police had previously said that 20-year-old Rinku raped the girl and a chargesheet was filed against him at Ghaziabad police station in February. He was released on bail earlier this month.

After the girl was shot, the family claimed that Rinku and another accomplice killed the girl out of revenge, police said.

The police then registered the case and arrested Rinku and his accomplice, said police commissioner Krishna Kumar.

However, during investigation, police found that the girl's mother and her two brothers had planned to kill her out of fear of losing the family's reputation, Kumar said.

The girl's brother, Vineet, and his maternal uncle, Mahavir, had planned to shoot his sister, who was travelling on a motorcycle with her other brother, Neeraj, and mother, Brijvati, Kumar said.

Police have arrested Neeraj, Vineet and Brijvati while Mahavir is currently on the run. They have recovered an illegal domestically made pistol used in the crime, cartridges and the motorcycle, the SP said.

Further investigations are ongoing, he added.
