Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday claimed that the BJP government in Haryana was on the verge of collapse and criminals and drug smugglers should leave the state before the assembly election results are announced or face harsh action.

While campaigning for Congress candidates in the four parliamentary seats of Sirsa district, he expressed concern over the drug scourge and said, “Today, there are more drug-related deaths in Haryana than in Punjab.”

The Congress government will put an end to this scourge, said the former Haryana chief minister, sharply criticising the BJP government for allegedly deteriorating public order.

Claiming that the BJP was on the verge of collapse, Hooda demanded that criminals and drug smugglers leave the state before October 8, the day the election results are announced.

The senior Congress leader claimed that the “hidden” alliance of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), the Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) with the BJP has now become public.

“Fearing defeat, the BJP has fielded parties like INLD, HLP and JJP to poach votes from the Congress party. However, the public has understood that every vote they give to the poachers will benefit the BJP.

“That is why this trick will not work this time. This time all communities have come together to form a Congress government,” he said.

He promised the people that once Congress forms a government in Haryana, two hundred thousand permanent posts would be recruited in a fair manner on the basis of merit and exams.

Hooda also promised an old-age pension of Rs 6,000 to the elderly, reinstatement of the old pension scheme for government employees, 300 units of free electricity, an LPG cylinder for Rs 500, Rs 2,000 per month for women and a free medical programme worth up to Rs 2.5 million.

“Farmers will get a legal guarantee of MSP and the upper limit for the OBC upper class will be increased from Rs 600,000 to Rs 1 crore so that people from the lower sections of the society can fully benefit from reservation,” he added.

The election for 90 seats in the Haryana Legislative Assembly will be held on October 5 and the results will be announced on October 8.
