How my drug addiction led me to a psychiatric hospital

Crayon is a popular singer who is signed to Don Jazzy’s record label “Mavin”.

Nigerian singer Charles Chibuezechukwu, better known as Crayon, has spoken openly about his battle with drug abuse and its serious consequences.

In a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the “Ngozi” hitmaker described his harrowing experience of being admitted to a psychiatric hospital where he almost lost his life due to his addiction.

Crayon recounted a particularly disturbing incident outside his record label's office and revealed how his colleague Rema came to his aid.

He recalled: “One day my manager saw me and was shocked at my condition. I told him I was just smoking weed, but then I started behaving erratically and walked barefoot to the Mavin studio. I'm glad no one recorded this incident because it could have seriously affected my confidence and career.”

Crayon further said that when he reached the gate of Mavin Studio, he sat there feeling overwhelmed.

“I took off my shirt and smashed my iPhone. Then the calls started pouring in. Rema, BabyFresy, everyone was worried and I just kept saying I was tired

“Rema came ready to help and even brought me a stick just in case. I was lying on Rema's lap and he said to me, 'Brother, trust me, when you get through this, you will come out stronger. This is your last fight.' I could not recognize anyone, but those words stuck in my mind,” he explained.

He also mentioned how serious the situation was and compared it to Mohbad's problems.

“I almost jumped out of a moving car, it was so intense. Eventually they took me to a psychiatric hospital in Lekki. It was a profound experience, but after everything I returned to Don Jazzy's house.”
