Mother of US school defendant Colt Gray charged with shooting his grandmother with a chair | Indiablooms

An American woman whose son is accused of killing four people in a shooting is now accused of tying her elderly mother to a chair, stealing her phone and damaging her house, media reports said.

Marcee Gray was charged on Monday in Ben Hill County, Georgia, with allegedly abusing her own mother, Deborah Polhamus, in November. As the New York Post reported, citing the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the mother was tied to a chair in her home in Fitzgerald for nearly 24 hours.

Gray, 43, faces several charges, including exploitation and intimidation of an elderly person, false imprisonment, second-degree criminal damage and theft, the newspaper reported.

If found guilty, Gray faces up to 20 years in prison on the main charge of elder exploitation.

The Apalachee High School shooter, Colt, who killed two teachers and students in the recent shooting, grew up in a broken home, according to media reports.

Colt Gray, the baby-faced suspect in the Georgia school massacre who is accused of killing two classmates and two teachers, grew up in a broken and neglected home that was regularly visited by police and child welfare workers, a former neighbor and landlord previously told the New York Post.

Colt's father, Colin Gray, was arrested. Authorities said he “knowingly allowed his son” to possess the weapon.

Colin Gray was arrested on four counts of manslaughter, two counts of first-degree murder and eight counts of child abuse, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said.

Colt Gray has been charged with four counts of murder in connection with the shooting at Apalachee High School, an incident that shocked the country.
