Man from Maine allegedly demolished new car with heavy backpack

A Maine man is suspected of causing up to $90,000 in damage to dozens of vehicles at an Auburn car dealership.

An Auburn man is charged with the bizarre attack on the vehicles

Skyler Henson, 25, of Auburn is charged with aggravated criminal damage following an incident on the dealership's premises over the weekend.

Maine police were reportedly called to the car dealership by the suspect

Auburn police were called to Rowe's, 699 Center Street, shortly after 4 a.m. for a “suspicious condition.” The caller asked officers to come to the dealership so he could speak with them in person, adding, “The sooner police arrive, the less damage there will be,” according to a press release on the Auburn Police Department's Facebook page. Dispatchers told authorities they could hear crashing noises in the background.

When the first officer arrived on the scene, he saw Henson allegedly brandishing a heavy backpack and smashing the windows and hoods of several vehicles in the parking lot. Officials say Henson was alone in the parking lot and was immediately taken into custody.

75 vehicles were damaged in the early morning incident

According to initial investigations, Henson caused damages between $80,000 and $90,000 to 75 different vehicles. Most of the damage was to the windshields, but many vehicles also suffered body damage.

Henson was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail where bail was set at $5,000 cash.
