Police: Father gave young girl a loaded gun during aggression driving incident | News

Berwick, Pennsylvania – A father has been charged after he gave his 12-year-old daughter a loaded handgun to wave around during a road rage incident, according to police.

Shane Allen Myers, 34, denied ever removing the loaded Springfield from his trunk during the incident on Fowlersville Road in July, but Myers' daughter contradicted his account, police said.

Sergeant Harold Morris of the Briar Creek Township Police Department said the following about the incident:

Morris was first contacted by Sergeant Joe Grassley of the Scott Township Police Department. Grassley initially investigated the call and tracked Myers down on State Route 487, where he stopped him. The caller told police she was driving on Fowlersville Road around 11 a.m. when the vehicle behind her began tailgating. She “slammed the car on the brakes” and gave it the middle finger, she said. When she reached the intersection with Cabin Run Road, she pulled over to the side of the road so the car could pass her.

At that moment, she says, the passenger, a woman in a tie-dye shirt, waved a gun and gave her the middle finger.

Police searched Myers' car and found a Springfield pistol with a loaded magazine in a trunk in the driver's door. Myers denied ever taking the gun out of the trunk, but his daughter told police her father held the gun up as they passed the other car.

When police asked the young girl who was holding the gun, she replied, “The same thing he said,” referring to her father's statements. When asked again who was holding the gun, Myers told police, “We say I pulled the gun out.”

He is accused of bribing minors and simple assault.
