Lawrence police arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder and other crimes Saturday following a gunfire incident in a vehicle, according to a post on the police Facebook page Sunday.

The post said police were called to the Morningside and Brush Creek area after gunshots were reported around 9 p.m. Saturday. They arrested a man who allegedly tried to shoot the driver of a car in the head. They also struck the driver and a woman who was in the car with the gun, the post said.

The post said a five-year-old child was in the car at the time but was unharmed. The driver and the woman who police said knocked the gun away during the alleged shooting suffered “obvious facial injuries,” the post said.

The investigation is ongoing.

According to Douglas County Jail records, Elijah Joseph Garcia was arrested at 10:29 p.m. Saturday on suspicion of aggravated assault, attempted second-degree murder and aggravated endangerment of a child.
