Sports star from Evansville killed in car crash in Illinois

ROBINSON, Ill. (WFIE) – Family and former teammates of one of Memorial High School's all-time greatest athletes have announced that he was killed in a car crash Saturday.

It is said that Clint Keown was in Robinson, Illinois, playing golf when it happened.

The dispatchers there informed us that the accident occurred on Route 1.

They say Keown's car was the only one involved in the accident and his passenger was injured.

The dispatchers did not know how serious the passenger’s injuries were.

They are not sure exactly when the accident occurred, but say it was reported shortly after noon.

During his high school years, Keown was named an Indiana All-Star in 1998.

He played two seasons of basketball at the University of Evansville for coach Jim Crews.

He then went to South Carolina Aiken and played both basketball and baseball.

Keown was a minor league baseball player for a short time and then became known for his poker and golf playing.

Teammates and friends mourn Keown.

We will let you know if we learn anything else.
