Rams fight back and beat 49ers, Cowboys lose again | National

NFC champions San Francisco gave up a 14-point lead and lost 27-24 to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, while the Dallas Cowboys suffered their second consecutive NFL home loss.

The Rams staged a thrilling comeback in the fourth quarter and handed the 49ers their first loss of the season. With two seconds left, Joshua Karty scored a 37-yard field goal to secure the win.

The Cowboys' problems continued and they lost 25-28 to the Baltimore Ravens, leaving them only 1-2 despite a late comeback attempt.

The “Niners”, cheered on by numerous traveling fans at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, got off to a lightning start in the first quarter and scored two touchdowns – both scored by Brock Purdy on a hit from Jauan Jennings.

The Rams stayed in the game thanks to a 15-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford to Kyren Williams, but Purdy found Jennings again midway through the third quarter with a 31-yard pass to make it 21-7.

But then the Rams started their comeback with a 3-yard rushing score from Williams.

They were still down 10 points with 6:15 left in the game, but a field goal from Karty narrowed the deficit before Stafford threw a 50-yard pass to Tutu Atwell and Williams ran in from four yards out to tie the game.

Ronnie Bell failed to catch a long pass from Purdy with a minute left that would have put San Francisco within field goal range. And the mistakes piled up, as the Rams benefited from a 25-yard pass interference penalty on De'Vondre Campbell, which gave Karty a 37-yard field goal throw that he converted for the game-winning drive.

In Dallas, Derrick Henry scored two touchdowns and Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson had a passing and rushing score as the Ravens took a 28-6 lead into the fourth quarter.

Dallas' Dak Prescott scored on a quarterback sneak early in the fourth quarter and then threw two more touchdowns, but the Cowboys' late comeback was not enough.

– Vikings win again –

Comeback quarterback Sam Darnold threw four touchdown passes as the Minnesota Vikings extended their successful start to the season with a convincing 34-7 victory over the Houston Texans.

Darnold, 27, who is playing for his third team in as many seasons, struggled to get playing time last year with the San Francisco 49ers and in 2022 with the Carolina Panthers, but has made an extremely impressive start for his new team.

After leading the Vikings to victories at the New York Giants and then a home game against the San Francisco 49ers, the former New York Jets first-round draft pick equaled his previous best touchdown output and improved his team's record to 3-0.

Darnold scored touchdowns through Justin Jefferson and Aaron Jones in the first quarter, then connected with Jalen Nailor for the third straight game in the third quarter before completing the win with a two-yard pass to tight end Johnny Mundt in the fourth quarter.

It was a rough day for Texans quarterback CJ Stroud, who threw two interceptions and was sacked four times, three of them by former Houston linebacker Jonathan Greenard.

The Pittsburgh Steelers also extended their record to 3-0 with a 20-10 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Steelers quarterback Justin Fields threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Calvin Austin in the fourth quarter and then ran for a 5-yard touchdown, handing the Chargers their first loss of the season.

Philadelphia running back Saquon Barkley scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to give the Eagles a narrow 15-12 win over the Saints in New Orleans.

After scoring a 65-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter, Barkley scored the game-winning touchdown with a 4-yard run with 1:01 minutes left in the game.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts set up the score by finding Dallas Goedert with a 61-yard pass on third and 16.

Rookie receiver Malik Nabers scored two touchdowns as the New York Giants defeated the Cleveland Browns 21-15.

Later on Sunday, the Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, will look to continue their winning streak against the Atlanta Falcons.
