Why fans will get free food at the Chiefs-Falcons game in Week 3 on Sunday Night Football

If you're heading to the “Sunday Night Football” showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Atlanta Falcons this week, you'll want to come hungry. According to the Sports Business Journal, every fan who will be in attendance at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Sunday will receive free food. Specifically, all 72,000 fans will receive free hot dogs, chips and Coca-Cola products in a souvenir cup. There's a limit of two hot dogs per person, but unlimited drink refills.

Why is this happening, you may ask? It revolves around Falcons owner Arthur Blank and his Entry into the franchise’s Ring of Honor on Sunday. So this can be seen as the owner tipping his hat to his fans as he prepares for his induction into the Hall of Fame.

In anticipation of this move to offer free concession stands on Sunday night and the enormous demand it will likely generate, Levy Restaurants and the Falcons have ordered 100,000 hot dogs and bags of chips in preparation for the event. The 100,000 hot dogs are 10-20 times the usual sales volume, according to the Sports Business Journal, and surpass the 82,000 sold all of last season.

In addition, 20 new hot dog distribution areas were set up in the stadium and to accommodate the increased demand, the organizer built an outdoor kitchen with 12 ovens.

The Falcons have already been lauded as one of the most, if not the most, fan-friendly stadiums. They have ranked first in the league in food and beverage for the past eight seasons, thanks in part to Blank's decision to keep prices low. On regular game days, the stadium charges $2 for hot dogs, pretzels and popcorn and $5 for beer.

In addition to Blank's induction, former Falcons quarterback and current CBS NFL analyst Matt Ryan will also be inducted into the franchise's Ring of Honor.
