Teenager found dead by Duchesne County officials; another in custody after ‘family dispute’

DUCHESNE COUNTY, Utah (KUTV) — A boy was apparently shot after a family dispute.

Officers from the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office were dispatched Sunday after receiving reports of the brawl in northwest Duchesne County.

Shots are said to have been fired during the fight.

When officers arrived at the scene, they said they found a boy outside the house and another boy dead inside the house.

The boy died of a gunshot wound to the upper body, the sheriff's department said.

There were no other family members in the house at the time of the incident.

Officers launched an investigation and took the surviving boy into custody.

The boy was questioned and taken to the Split Mountain Youth Detention Center in Vernal.

Due to the sensitivity of the incident, the name of the deceased boy will not be disclosed.

This case is being investigated as homicide.
